Science History of the Universe

By: Francis Rolt Wheeler

In the present volume there have been covered in a comprehensive and popular manner the various departments of Astronomy. Owing to its treatment in a definitely historical and descriptive manner, however, it may be possible to supplement the general review by a few brief statements of some of the results and problems that confront us in the actual work of the observational astronomy of to-day....

The astronomical beliefs of prehistoric man were doubt similar to those entertained by the Eskimo of the Arctic regions and the untutored tribes of Argentine' Republic, South Africa and Australia, tribes who, living only for the day, concern themselves but little with to- morrow and yesterday and care nothing about the universe......

By: Светлана Денисова

Vrishabhathinte Kannu : Collection of Short Stories

By: Harikumar Edasseri

The story Vrishabhathinte Kannu is about an accident in which a four year old boy gets killed together with his paternal uncle. The story centers around the sub-tenant of one of the flats in the building, who was so friendly with the child. He is moved by the incident, and decides to go to the hospital to see the child. It is the traumatic experience of this man the story is about. ...

Behind him was the security guard of the morgue, and still farther behind in the dark cold room were the cold bodies wrapped up in white linen. He remembered what Hiren Mehta had said, and what Mehta’s son had said. Beyond the eyes of the evil planets, fatalist beliefs, and lives predetermined in a four dimensional field of the world, he saw the indefinable, and unforeseeable, but definite death. Back in the building he was climbing the staircase, and when he reached the second floor he saw Aditya’s house still locked. On the latch of the door was kept a packet of flowers. He wondered where have they all gone. They might have gone to her husband’s home. They might come only after a few days. The flowers will remain there until they come back. After all, what is the relation between flowers and death? (Vrishabhathinte Kannu)...

Mistaken Identities

By: R. Joiner

A mystery that's really only a mystery to the main protagonist. It's a perverted kind of fun to watch him flounder. Contact me at R1234J@hotmail.com...

Any mystery writer knows that in every clever design there must be at least one unforeseen element that when discovered will bring down the perpetrator’s entire house of cards in such an ironic fashion that it can neatly epitomize the ludicrousness of any mere human being trying to arrange God’s universe. This item is to be discovered by God’s designated instrument, the good guy detective, of course. In this way, the solution is predetermined, as if time is made to run backwards so that all the bifurcations in the road of life, and the bifurcations of those bifurcations, and so on can only lead back to that one monadic instance in which the infinite confusion of our existence is explained. But, what if God’s universe were to be built on the indeterminate model, as if Gödel or Heisenberg himself were adding up the evidence until the solution, through the mere trying to find it, created a dénouement in which the reader, tossing the book in disgust, knew less about the rights and the wrongs than when he first began turning the pages?...
