Description
“Memoir isn’t the summary of a life; it’s a window into a life, very much like a photograph in its selective composition. It may look like a casual and even random calling up of bygone events. It’s not; it’s a deliberate construction.” ~ William Zinsser This book of Carl Porten is for the readers to explore and become a part of his personal world of emotions, his mental and emotional world, experiences and his journey, as described through this collection of twelve of his best poems among others. This collection of poems gives the reader a rare opportunity to take a sneak peek into a poetic world of memoirs and reminiscences. This emotional journey consists of a mixed bag of emotions as Marcel Proust is known to have famously remarked, “Remembrance of things past is not necessarily the remembrance of things as they were.” This deep dive into the world of memoirs will undeniably be an intriguing experience for the reader as such intriguing experiences leave an indelible impression on our minds. “If you want to keep your memories, you first have to live them.”~ Bob Dylan and well, yes, so very true it is. Memoirs make up a very big part our persona, being inextricably woven with our inner psyche and ego. Without our memoirs, we’d just be an empty shadow of our former selves. For these memoirs are the emotions that at times make us clingy to the past although we exist in the moment, the present...else reality dictates we wouldn’t have existed as ‘we’ exist, had it not been for our memoirs. For without the echo of the past, there’s no present and there will be no future. Time itself, indeed is a ‘double-edged’ sword as it stops progress for the one who dwells in the past, eventually as strong ties to one’s past is invariably responsible to lead one to procrastination. It’s the inevitable outcome because it’s a paradox that without acknowledging the past to be a part of us, we can’t even learn lessons that the past has to offer, that life has to offer and our memoirs that do keep us good company as they exist in various forms to help us reflect back and learn our life lessons, at times with joy and pleasure and also otherwise, sometimes as we learn life lessons through sadness, heartbreaks, disappointment, disillusionment and despair, thus have the power to make us all or nothing...memoirs...do always have their sway over us...and will always have it...We all are memoirs...and essentially ‘memoirs’ as this unique gift of poems would endorse the view very aptly that our life’s but a journey of our soul’s memoirs...an eternal and everlasting ‘collection of memoirs’...
