Description
Description: Sergeant Kendra Pacelli played no role in the many mistakes and crimes that took place on Earth. To avoid the repressive government, she seeks asylum on another planet. Grainne. Unfortunately for Kendra, the government tracks her down and is now after her for crimes that she never committed and she now is on the run once again.

Summary
Summary: Sergeant Kendra Pacelli is innocent, but that doesn't matter to the repressive government pursuing her. Mistakes might be made, but they are never acknowledged, especially when billions of embezzled dollars earned from illegal weapons sales are at stake. But where does one run when all Earth and most settled planets are under the aegis of one government? Answer: The Freehold of Grainne. There, one may seek asylum and build a new life in a society that doesn't track its residents every move, which is just what Pacelli has done. But now things are about to go royally to hell. Because Earth's government has found out where she is, and they want her back. Or dead.

Excerpt
Excerpt: Chapter 1 Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents, which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant. ?Quintus Horiatis Flaccus. "Didn't you sleep?" Kendra asked, her brain finally starting to track. "No. I didn't want to lock you in and leave you alone, so I stayed. That requires me to leave my hardware outside and cuff you to the bed or stay awake. I prefer to stay awake." "You didn't have to do that for me," Kendra said. These people were strange. Compassionate and warmly friendly, but utterly unforgiving in their security. "I know." Jelsie sat back down and asked, "Feeling better?" "A little," Kendra agreed. Her memory was starting to fill in some gaps. Remembering some snippets of conversation, she asked, "Was whatsisname interrogating me last night?" Considering for a moment, Jelsie said, "I don't think it's a security breach to say 'yes.' " "And what did he find out?" Kendra prodded. "I have no idea. Obviously he doesn't think you're a spy or you wouldn't have woken up," Jelsie explained. "That's a pretty cold-blooded trick," Kendra commented. "Yes," Jelsie nodded. "We could have done what the UN agents do and tied you to a chair, beaten you senseless, injected you with drugs and left you in a flophouse afterwards." Kendra winced as she thought about Janie and Tom. "Sorry," Jelsie said, sounding very sincere."
