This paper presents some information on the oxidation-reduction p o t e n t i a l of Entamoeba h i s t o l y t i c a $ t r a i n s . The T-strain, B-strain and A-strain, which were i s o l a t e d i n 1981, 1980 and 1975, respectively, from the stoole of p a t i e n t s suffering from amoebic dysentery, were used i n t h i s study. Stock c u l t u r e s of the amoebae, containing a mixed b a c t e r i a l f l o r a , were maintained i n Locke's-agar-serum (LAS) dighasic medium a t 36 4 l * ~ . For the experimental s t u d i e s , two media were prepared: medium 1 was the classical.-^^^ diphasic medium; medium 2 was a modified Diamond's medium. Using the Poegendorff method, studies were made to determine the o x l d a t i o n ~ e d u c t i o n p o t e n t i a l s (Eh) of the three s t r a i n s of u i s t o l y t i c a i n the two d i f f e r e n t c u l t u r e media. The r e s u l t s showed t h a t i n medium 1 multiplication of the T-strain occurred between Eh 137.5-171.0 mv, t h a t of the B-strain between Eh 145.0-169.3 mv and that of the A-strain between Eh 149.8-172.9 mv; i n medium 2 t h e values f o r the respective s t r a i n s were 124.3-141.3 mv, 132.9-147.8 mv and 128.8-142.7 mv.
