INTRODUCTION In collaboration with the Government of Austria, the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization convened a Conference on the Epidemiology of Road Traffic Accidents in Vienna from 4 to 7 November 1975. The purpose of the Conference was to consider ways in which scientific techniques, including epiderniolou, could be applied to the prevention of deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents. The terms of reference included the identification of high-risk groups of road users and of situations in which serious accidents are likely to happen. The Conference was attended by participants from 18 European countries and by representatives of three international organizations. A full list of participants is to be found in Annex 3.
