Of Wlese, som 300 million are enrolled in prFmary and secondary scl~ools. They constitute about Il per cent of the worldls population of 2.7 bi1lion.l Obviously, the heaLth of such a Large numker of children and youth, who are in school to laarn tc become leaders and citizens of tomorrow, should be a p r a - mount concern, not only of the teachers but a180 of society and the people at large. It is well known that a sick or physicaljg or mentally handicapped child, or a child who is ill-nourished or is otherwise unable to do his best, cannot learn well. It bears repeating tbat th twentieth century is the vlcentury of the childn. T t is encouraging that i n many countries of the world today, everything is king done ta protect and improve the health of sckoolckiildren. No effort is spared to do the job that may be required to teach thm to be healthy and strong, to prwide them with a wholesome and healthful environment, and to make available to thema variety of health services which they need and richly deserve.
