The terrorist attacks of September 1 1,2001, transformed the Environmental Protection Agency's long-standing mission to protect the environment and safeguard human health in new and important ways. For more than 30 years, the EPA has worked on behalf of the American people to protect our country fiom the effects of pollution and the threat of environmental degradation. Our goal has always been to make America's air cleaner, its water purer, and its land better protected.
