Geo News Live Watch Live

Geo News is a Pakistani news channel, owned and operated by Jang Group. The channel started its Test transmission on 14 August 2002 and regular transmission in October 2002.Geo is an Urdu word which translates to ‘live on’ in English. It is one of the most popular T.V channels in Pakistan. It is mostly popular for it's show Khabar naak. Since its launch, Geo TV has tested the bounds of freedom of expression in Pakistan to unprecedented levels in the country’s history. This has also put Geo TV in numerous conflicts with the Pakistani government.

History

Geo Television Network started out with its flagship channel Geo TV, but has since launched several other channels which include the following: GEO Entertainment, GEO News, GEO Super and AAG TV.

Criticism against the Government of Pakistan

Since April, the Geo TV channel has been embroiled in a defamation row with the powerful ISI intelligence agency. The ISI says the channel has unfairly linked the agency to an attack on a Geo talk show host in Karachi. But officials from Geo, Pakistan's most watched news channel, have described the licence suspension as unfair. Supporters of the channel say the suspension is a dark day for media freedom in Pakistan.Correspondents note that the allegations against the intelligence agency are unusual because few dare upset the ISI - long regarded as one of the most powerful institutions in the country.
