Operation Theater Techniques : Obstetrics & Gynecology

By: Dr. Shashank Vyankatesh Parulekar

The book is meant for resident doctors who are starting their training. Obstetrics & Gynecology is a subject that involves a lot of operative procedures. Just knowledge of which instruments to use and which steps to perform is not enough to perform an operation successfully. A lot depends on manual dexterity. A basic knowledge of the technique of holding different instruments correctly and passing sutures, ligatures, and tying knots is essential for performance of all types of operations. This aspect has not been dealt with by any book so far. I have written this book to bridge that gap in the educational resources available to students....

The Ugly Lights

By: Steve Gillow

A sequel to "One Song Sets" with stories from The Bunker that don't start and end with either Kitty or the Professor, plus a couple that do.

As for the institution, no dancer will claim Candy as a stage name. At first it was because Mom didn't want the Professor reminded. But every once in a while a new dancer wanted to claim the moniker. The Professor told Mom that it didn't bother him, but she made sure there was nothing Candy-esque about the dancer. Candy #2 was pretty to look at but dumb as a box of rocks. She didn't last a month, aborting a fetus just before pregnancy started to show. Candy #3 was too sly for her own good and went to jail her first night on the floor. She picked a drunk's pocket. Then there was the last Candy, Candy #4. Every once in a while somebody will shake their head and mention that they miss her. Even the Professor. About the only thing Candy #4 had in common with the original was being female. She was upwards of six foot in heels and started out brunette, straight hair that fell down her back in the way only seen in shampoo ads. She smiled easily and genuinely. Six or seven years out of high school, she still had all that sweetness without any of the bile. Her breasts were augmented, but not ridiculously so and not obv...

Artificial Intelligence and Responsive Optimization (Second Edition)

By: Florentin Smarandache; M. Khoshnevisan

In part 1, we have defined a fuzzy utility system, with different financial goals, different levels of risk tolerance and different personal preferences, liquid assets, etc. In part 2, we have defined a computational model for a simple portfolio insurance strategy using a protective put and computationally derive the investor’s governing utility structures underlying such a strategy under alternative market scenarios. In Part 3, it is proposed an artificial classification scheme to isolate truly benign tumors from those that initially start off as benign but subsequently show metastases. In part 4, an alternative methodological approach has been proposed for quantifying utility in terms of expected information content of the decision-maker’s choice set....

In this paper we have designed our fuzzy system so that customers are classified to belong to any one of the following three categories: *Conservative and security-oriented (risk shy) *Growth-oriented and dynamic (risk neutral) *Chance-oriented and progressive (risk happy) A neutrosophic system has three components – that’s why it may be considered as just a generalization of a fuzzy system which has only two components. Besides being useful for clients, investor classification has benefits for the professional investment consultants as well. Most brokerage houses would value this information as it gives them a way of targeting clients with a range of financial products more effectively - including insurance, saving schemes, mutual funds, and so forth. Overall, many responsible brokerage houses realize that if they provide an effective service that is tailored to individual needs, in the long-term there is far more chance that they will retain their clients no matter whether the market is up or down....

The Long Search for a Surgical Strike : Precision Munitions and the Revolution in Military Affairs

By: Dr. David R. Mets

Dr. David R. Mets’s The Long Search for a Surgical Strike: Precision Munitions and the Revolution in Military Affairs is a broad, thought-provoking examination of the relationship between the advancement in conventional weapons guidance technology and the “revolution in military affairs” (RMA). He defines an RMA as a rapid change in military technology, doctrine, and organization leading to a sweeping new way that wars are fought. Dr. Mets then considers whether the improvement in conventional air weapons accuracy since World War II is the foundation, the main pillar, one of the principal supports, or is irrelevant to the RMA—which is said to be afoot....

A Child's Garden of Verses : The Reader's Library, 13

By: Robert Louis Stevenson; Neil Azevedo, Editor

Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) was worn in Edinburgh, Scotland, and suffered from frail health all through childhood, an affliction that would follow him into adulthood and manifest itself ultimately as tuberculosis. He initially set out to be a lawyer and was admitted to the bar in 1875, though he never practiced. He is best known for his tales Treasure Island and The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, though he wrote a number of other stories, excellent essays, and of course poems. Constantly searching for a climate that would ease his suffering, he died quite young at the age of 44 and was buried high on Mt. Vaea in his final home of Samoa, the site of which is immortalized in the poem “Requiem” contained within these pages. I was first introduced to his timeless A Child’s Garden of Verses by my mother as a child myself, and the simple, extremely perceptive moments beautifully rendered in Stevenson’s effortless cadences and perfect rhymes went a long way, I imagine, to making me believe from an early age that poetry was the best way to explain and discover everything, and subsequently made me want to be a poet mys...

The Land of Nod From breakfast on through all the day At home among my friends I stay, But every night I go abroad Afar into the land of Nod.   All by myself I have to go, With none to tell me what to do— All alone beside the streams And up the mountain-sides of dreams.   The strangest things are there for me, Both things to eat and things to see, And many frightening sights abroad Till morning in the land of Nod.   Try as I like to find the way, I never can get back by day, Nor can remember plain and clear The curious music that I hear....

God's Blueprint of the Holy Bible : Volume 1

By: Felix Wantang

You must truly love Jesus Christ to read this book. This is not another Christian book in the market. If you don’t believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, collectively known as the Holy Trinity, then you shouldn’t read this book. When God created everything, it was a manifestation of the blueprint of His divine plan from His Creative Library. Out of that plan came humanity, the Holy Bible, and Salvation through Jesus Christ. Out of that plan God will also surprisingly unleash the End of the Age which is a lot closer than you think. God’s blueprint encapsulated in His son Jesus Christ has never been disclosed to humanity; but as we move closer to the End of the Age, Jesus Christ has decided for the first time in human history to unveil God’s Supernatural Blueprint for Humanity to those who truly love him. The blueprint also contains the step-by-step divine process that leads to the End of the Age. “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Matthew 7:1...

The Origin of God From time immemorial, the relentless search for the origins of Biblical truth has persistently trapped humanity in an endless loop. Bible critics have come up with all sorts of theories to refute Biblical truth. The most notorious claim is that Jesus Christ was married and even had children. If there is any element of truth in this claim, then that will practically make the Holy Bible completely false. If the Bible is not the truth, then God obviously doesn’t exist. On the other hand, the Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is the image and son of God Himself. “Jesus answered: ‘Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?” John 14:9. In every scientific research in human history, you cannot prove a theory without a traceable origin. For example, we cannot scientifically trace the origin of a new life on earth beyond the point of male and female unification. The fact that the world cannot trace the origin of God makes such scientific theories regarding Jesus Christ less reliable than a fairy tale. Biblic...

Chapter 1 One year earlier… It had been a long day in July, with heat waves rampaging throughout South Carolina. Even though nighttime had long fallen and the temperatures had cooled down noticeably, my shirt still stuck to my back. I wondered what good that shower had done that I’d taken before meeting Sherry. A rush of wind blew through my hair as we rode to the top of the Ferris wheel and then stopped, hovering in midair. I breathed in, relaxed, and listened to the distant screams, music, and laughter echo below us. Sherry set down the stuffed pink pig I’d won for her in the ring toss and folded her hands in her lap, enjoying the silence. I dared a quick look at the stuffed animal, fighting with myself whether to be proud or sink into the ground. The guys back at school surely would’ve suggested the latter, but I didn’t care. Granted, it wasn’t the giant teddy bear I’d spent twenty bucks trying to win, but Sherry seemed happy with her little plush pink prize nonetheless. She squeezed my hand, and I smiled. I rocked the cart back and forth with my legs. “Hey! Stop it,” Sherry said, twining her fingers through my hair. “B...

Paradoxist Distiches

By: Florentin Smarandache

The whole paradoxist distich should be as a geometric unitary parabola, hyperbola, ellipse at the borders between art, philosophy, rebus, and mathematics – which exist in complementariness. The School of Paradoxist Literature, which evolved around 1980s, continues through these bi-verses closed in a new lyric exact formula, but with an opening to essence. For this kind of procedural poems one can elaborate mathematical algorithms and implement them in a computer: but, it is preferable a machine with … soul!...

Multispace & Multistructure Neutrosophic Transdisciplinary : 100 Collected Papers of Sciences : Volume 4

By: Florentin Smarandache

The fourth volume, in my book series of “Collected Papers”, includes 100 published and unpublished articles, notes, (preliminary) drafts containing just ideas to be further investigated, scientific souvenirs, scientific blogs, project proposals, small experiments, solved and unsolved problems and conjectures, updated or alternative versions of previous papers, short or long humanistic essays, letters to the editors...

This short technical paper advocates a bootstrapping algorithm from which we can form a statistically reliable opinion based on limited clinically observed data, regarding whether an osteo-hyperplasia could actually be a case of Ewing’s osteosarcoma. The basic premise underlying our methodology is that a primary bone tumour, if it is indeed Ewing’s osteosarcoma, cannot increase in volume beyond some critical limit without showing metastasis. We propose a statistical method to extrapolate such critical limit to primary tumour volume. Our model does not involve any physiological variables but rather is entirely based on time series observations of increase in primary tumour volume from the point of initial detection to the actual detection of metastases....
