Brane Child

By: David L Morrese

The Brane Skip device may provide a way for humanity to overcome the light-speed barrier and finally head for the stars. It seems like magic to Lisa Chang, the young engineer in command of the first crewed test flight, and Lisa doesn't believe in magic. But she does believe in the mission. Humanity must explore space in order to survive and prosper, and she feels honored to be among the first to go where no one has gone before. She does not know what will happen when the Brane Skip engages. She thinks it will do nothing. She fears it will explode. She does not expect it will cast them adrift in space and on a collision course with a fantasy version of Earth, complete with dragons, orcs, and wizards. Unfortunately, this is exactly what happens. ...

The antagonistic magician stepped back and drew another item from a belt pouch. This one looked like either a small cocoon or a large wad of pocket fluff. He gestured more theatrically this time. "Swirling mist on quiet bog "Patient sits a bump on log "Craving flies within the sog "Now thou art a croaking frog!" She could not restrain herself this time and laughed in his dumbfounded face. Rennart backed away, still watching her, his eyes narrowed in a cold, calculating squint. Ferman ran up to her. "How are you feeling?" he asked anxiously. "To be honest, a bit confused," she said, wiping her eye and trying to compose herself. "Oh? Like maybe wondering why you have a sudden urge to wallow in the mud or eat a fat, juicy fly?" "What? Don't be ridiculous. I'm confused about what all this is about. It's a joke, right? Is this some kind of movie set or something?" In her world, the real world, movies hadn’t been made with live actors and sets in over fifty years because it was so slow and expensive. Better results could be obtained from computer graphics, but this being a movie set was a more plausible explanation than anythin...

The Warden Threat

By: David L Morrese

And now for something completely different—a humorous science fiction parody of epic fantasy adventure stories—an anti-fantasy book that pokes some good-natured fun at the serious tone and dependence on magic common to many epic fantasy adventure genre novels. There are no dragons here, but there are some androids. This is the story of Prince Donald of Westgrove. He is the idealistic third son of the king, and he comes to believe that he may be the only one able to protect his country from an invasion spearheaded by an ancient and massive magical stone warrior known as the Warden of Mystic Defiance. Donald, unfortunately, is woefully unprepared. His only real understanding of such things comes from his reading of adventure stories. When he finds an ancient scroll he believes may allow him to take control of the mysterious Warden, he eagerly takes on the task. He dreams of saving the kingdom and becoming a hero like those in his books. To his dismay, his quest turns out to be nothing like he imagined. He finds the stories in his library seriously understate the complexities and hardships involved. He also soon realizes that ...

Donald held his breath. The great black monolith stood its ground refusing to so much as acknowledge his presence, much less answer his summons. “Maybe you have to do it naked,” Muce whispered, breaking the silence. “What?” The young notso held the prince’s translation of the patched vellum scroll in his hand. “It says here, Naked to the Warden’s love. Maybe that means you have to do it without any clothes on.” “Let me see that!” The prince snatched the paper from his companion’s hand. “No. That’s just a poetic way to say you have to be sincere. It can’t literally mean without any clothes because it also says you have to have this silly hat and glove, for the gods’ sake. How can you be naked wearing a hat and a glove?” “I don’t know, but that’s what it says, and what you did before didn’t work. You sounded real good, though, Your Highness. It was really impressive.” “Uh, thanks. What do you think, Kwestor?” asked Donald. “You still don’t want to know. But if you’re going to try anything else, you’ll need to do it soon. Dawn doesn’t last that long.” The prince turned his eyes to the horizon and the creeping light of dawn. “B...

Proposed Fundamental Principles And Civilization Scale: Comprehensive Study Of Mysteries In Science

By: Cres Huang

A true civilization would coherent with the natural principles of the fundamental elements. Type 0: Parasitic. Type I: Mastery of energy. Type II: Mastery of energy and matter. It is easy to neglect happenings that may take decades or longer to surface for short-lived creatures. We don't even have a clear memory of longer than few millenniums back, do we ready look and prepare our future in millenniums ahead? It seems that no matter how hard the foreseeing people warm us, the society remains operating shortsightedly. The issue is, will our future be shorter than our past?...

Delusion of Time Dilation: Comprehensive Study Of Mysteries In Science

By: Cres Huang

Exploits speed, time, and space to show why time dilation is impossible. Space and time are completely independent. Space has existence and absolutely recyclable. However, time is only reference information. It doest not exist in nature. Among all, TIME CAN NOT BE RECYCLED! Clocks can drift, yet, it is absolutely independent of time. Can we suppose the expansion or contraction of a yard stick meant the space has changed?...

Time is only the reference information. It is not the element of the universe. Hasn't our obsession with time and speed clouded our judgment?

Wright Flyer Paper : The Cheshire Jet; Harnessing Metamaterials to Achieve an Optical Stealth Capability, Vol. 44

By: Major Timothy E. Beers, USAF

This paper addresses the question, “Will metamaterials facilitate an operationally feasible and significant optical stealth capability for the US Air Force?” To answer this question, the author’s research is directed at the advances and development patterns of optical band metamaterials; specifically, it addresses the leading indicators of frequency, bandwidth, and energy loss. Following that, a backcasting futures technique helps uncover the obstacles of metamaterial durability, suitability, and manufacturability. This paper concludes with a 20-year timeline for optical band metamaterial capabilities and applications....

A Song of the Nameless Traveller

By: Tomek Piorkowski

Epic Fantasy Narrative Poetry Verse Novel

A horseman was coming down the road, solemn and grim, wearing a dark cape, and wearing a hat broad of brim. The horse upon which he rode was as dark as the night. The horse had two eyes flashing red, ready for a fight. The black-clothed rider had strong shoulders broad, though his bearing and aura were of a gentleman lord. Hanging at the horseman's side was a mighty sword, a blade of strength and courage wherever it warred. Underneath his hat, the man's face was obscured, though he seemed a man who had much endured. The horse lazily trotted along ignoring the village throng, though her red eyes did flash as though asking for a clash!...

Warden and the Air Corps Tactical School : Déjá Vu

By: Major Scott D. West, USAF

This study answers the following questions: Is John A. Warden III’s, “The Enemy as a System” analogous to the Air Corps Tactical School’s (ACTS) industrial web theory of airpower employment? If so, why (given the 50 plus years between development of these theories)? If not, what are the prime sources of divergence? The author first describes both theories using an outline from which they are compared on an “apples to apples” basis. From this analysis, similarities and differences are presented. Next, the author discusses contextual factors affecting development of both theories....

Pitfall of Space Expansion: Comprehensive Study of Mysteries in Science

By: Cres Huang

Studies the pitfall and paradoxes of inflation theory, including big-bang, dark energy, and dark matter. We know car will not drive on frictionless surface. Space has no surface and completely frictionless. It will not carry anything along, even if space could expand. Invisible matter, normal or dark, has to be felt since it has to occupy space. Normal matter would not move freely in space occupied by dark matter and dark energy. If there is interaction between normal and dark, it will be shown by normal matter. It is meaningless if there is no interaction. Only SPACE can occupy same space with matter without interaction, isn't it? ...

If you are riding on a craft, it will not carry you away if you there is no friction between you and the craft. Space is completely frictionless. It has no surface, and can only be regarded as absolute zero viscosity. Expansion of the space, if possible, will not drag anything along. It would just flow through and zip away by itself....

Driving Force of Tectonic Plate: Comprehensive Study Of Mysteries In Science

By: Cres Huang

Monitoring the trembler of the ground provides warning. However, it could be too late. I believe it is possible to advance our early prediction to a comfortable level; if we can obtain the variations of centrifugal force before it is strong enough to cause trembler. The good news is centrifugal and wave force are consistent and easier to predict; and well understood by science. The difficult is the composition of the crust perplexes the distribution of force. ...

It is possible that the centrifugal force of spiraling motion made Earth oblate spheroid, and the main driving force of waving mantle along with crust, water and air. I believe it is possible to advance our early prediction to a comfortable level by studying the wave behavior of the crust. ...

A Brief Experiment of Space: Comprehensive Study of Mysteries in Science

By: Cres Huang

We have learned to manipulating matter and energy since our first existence on Earth, however, never space. Luckily, there is vacuum sharing some properties of space. We can create and shape vacuum to some extent. This experiment will observe the actions of vacuum, mass and energy to derive a logical understanding of space....

Here, the properties of space is summarized as: • Playing-field for mass, energy, and action. • Massless, shapeless, and weightless. • Actionless or absolute zero. • Contains no energy. • Frictionless or zero viscosity. • Incapable of any interaction. • Coexists with all objects. • Beyond measure. • Absolute independent. • Absolute integrity. It’s properties and location never alter....
