Unwritten Literature of Hawaii; The Sacred Songs of the Hula Collected and Translated with Notes and an Account of the Hula

By: Nathaniel B. Emerson

Previous to the year 1906 the researches of the Bureau were restricted to the American Indians, but by act of Congress approved June 30 of that year the scope of its operations was extended to include the natives of the Hawaiian islands. Funds were not specifically provided, however, for prosecuting investigations among these people, and in the absence of an appropriation for this purpose it was considered inadvisable to restrict the systematic investigations among the Indian tribes in order that the new field might be entered. Fortunately the publication of valuable data pertaining to Hawaii is already provided for, and the present memoir by Doctor Emerson is the first of the Bureau's Hawaiian series. It is expected that this Bulletin will be followed shortly by one comprising an extended list of works relating to Hawaii, compiled by Prof. H. M. Ballou and Dr. Cyrus Thomas....

Song of Eternity

By: Advanced Micro Image Systems Hawaii, Inc.

It is the purpose of this series of articles to attempt a resolution on these questions by reviewing the ethnological history of the Hawaiian peoples as contained in their ancient traditions, rituals and epic poetry. It is the purpose of these articles to present the Hawaiian royal traditions unconfounded by the elements and theology of Christianity or the insidious influence of other cultural philosophies. It is our purpose to relate what will substantially be the same history, prayers, and chants that for innumerable centuries were recited by the Hawaiian priesthood of the Order of Io and the worship of Kane. If, as inevitably it must, there shall rise a conflict of thought between these articles and the preponderant opinion of modern anthropological research, we shall only be able to resolve or at least to mitigate these differences by restating our purpose of presenting the history of the Hawaiian from his own viewpoint. To accomplish this, we shall adhere strictly to our primary source of material, the Song of Eternity (He Koi Honua No Ke Aha Alii, Ka Halau Kapu O Keawe) of the Royal and Sacred House of Keawe, traditional ru...

The Song of Eternity, never before disclosed to the public, is a series of heroic epics and liturgies. The last time that it was recited in its entirety was at the necrological ceremonies attending the funeral of the beloved Prince William Charles Lunalilo, King of Hawaii and sixth of the Dynasty of Kamehameha. Lenthy portions of it, however, have been chanted at other similar ceremonies, the most prominent of these being the coronation of David Kalakaua, and the furierals of the Queens, Emma and Liliuokalani; of the Princes William Leleiohoku, David Kawananakoa, and Albert Kunuiakea, and of the High-Chiefesses Kehauluohi II, Ruth Keelikolani, Peleuli Crowningburg-Amalu, Elizabeth Kekaaniau Pratt, and others. It may also be of interest to know that various of its liturgies were chanted at the ceremonies which elevated Archibald Cleghorn and John Owen Dominis as Princes of the Realm and which created the late Henry Gaylord Dillingham as a High-Chief of Hawaii in the Order of Kaleiwohi....

E 001 If All The Seas Were One Sea Unknown Poet By P S Remesh Chandran

By: P. S. Remesh Chandran

It's an old English song which often found its way into many English text books the world over. A primitive prototype rendering of this song was made in a crude tape recorder decades earlier, in 1984. In 2014, a home made video of this song was released. This third version is comparatively better. The next version, we hope, would be fully orchestrated. This song was originally part of the project PROPÈS INDIA or Project For The Popularization of English Songs In India, recorded from an English class by Mr. P S Remesh Chandran. Today it belongs to Bloom Books Channel’s Sing A Song Project for children. It's free for reuse, and anyone interested can develop and build on it, till it becomes a fine musical video production, to help our little learners, and their teachers.
