Summary
MAGISTRUM: BROTHERHOOD by Francis Xavier The Setup The novel is set in 1145 AD, at a time when the Renaissance is sweeping across Europe, but that cultural awakening is colliding with the brutal warfare of the Crusaders against foreign invaders. The Creation of the Magistrum To protect his throne and his land from internal and external threats, the King of England secretly forges a cult of elite warriors - the Magistrum. They are highly skilled, loyal, and operate outside the law to eliminate potential threats to the crown. They become heroes, feared by enemies and revered for their deeds. The Betrayal Once the immediate dangers pass, the King sees the Brotherhood itself as a liability - a secret too powerful and too knowledgeable to be allowed to exist openly. He discards them, disavowing their service and ordering their erasure. Forced to survive, the Magistrum are compelled to hide in the shadows, away from the society they once protected. The Core Conflict Now exiled and hunted, the Brotherhood lives as ghosts - men left only with memories of their past heroic deeds and the code that bound them together. The story follows their struggle to survive betrayal, stay loyal to their brotherhood oath when the kingdom has abandoned them, and decide whether they will remain hidden forever or reclaim their legacy. The central premise is: What happens to the weapons a king creates when he tries to throw them away? It's a historical thriller / medieval brotherhood story - part Crusades-era politics, part secret-society conspiracy.
