Excerpt
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is the only Federal agency with broad jurisdiction to enhance consumer welfare in virtually all sectors of the economy. The FTC enforces the laws that prohibit business practices that are anticompetitive, deceptive, or unfair to consumers, and seeks to do so without impeding legitimate business activity. The agency also promotes informed consumer choice and public understanding of the competitive process. The FTC?s work is critical in protecting and strengthening free and open markets in the United States and, increasingly, the world.
