Excerpt: This report, prepared at your request, examines the Federal Aviation Administration?s (FAA) response to the Aviation Security Improvement Act of 1990. We are making recommendations aimed at ensuring that (1) the nation?s category X airports (airports that have a high volume of traffic and complex security programs) are properly assessed to fully examine threats and vulnerabilities, (2) U.S. citizens traveling on foreign airlines receive an adequate level of security, (3) efforts to safeguard mail and cargo carried by passenger aircraft are effectively carried out, and (4) FAA?S efforts are sufficient to meet current and future challenges to aviation security.
