The work is divided into 7 parts: Mountbreakday, Abovesallee, Neversell, Fort Notcontest, Dyensell & Mustsell. In Part One, Mountbreakday, we are introduced to the Knights 'Mah Risenite' (alter ego Spin Stands) and 'Waindhy Fallday'. Waindhy informs Mah about the fate of Spin Stands, the 19 year old daughter of the Orator 'Tide'. Mah refuses to accept what Waindhy has to say. "Waindhy's gold Spearme was an innovative improvement on an ancient weapon." This is the beginning of the breakup where one partner finds the news that the relationship has ended so heartbreaking and unbearable that they cannot accept what they have heard. Part Two, Abovesallee is a time in Spin Stand's life where she wrongly assumes that her life is a celebration of a happy home and that her life and hence her home is safe from the auctioneers hammer and is above selling. She cannot face into her poor health. "I only tolerate you because you are not long for this world", the man said icily. She finds the news that the father of the home is leaving and will not return baffling. "I've had enough of you!" Tide continued harshly. "I'm leaving and I'm not coming back to this apartment!" During Part Three, Neversell, Spin still refuses to accept that that she has lost her home and clings to the prospect that her life and home is never sell. As the revelation slowly dawns on her that she is alone, she faces the world outside, finding it initially to be a strange and frightening place. Even though Spin finds herself "drowning in blinding anxiety," she tries to discover the reason why her father chose to leave. During Part Four, we are at Fort Notcontest, the Dyingrounds and the speedy not contested divorce. Spin's health is extremely poor and she is very sad. To Spin the divorce symbolically is a Requiem. Mah, Spin's alter ego, now faces into the many Requiem hurdles. Mah wins the Fort Notcontest Games keeping the treasure, the blood stars (the mother gains custody of the children of the marriage). After the Games, Mah takes Spin to the Ropeat on Antarcticwell  (symbolic of prayer). At the Spearme Tournament held at the Keep's Mahsworth, Mah not wanting Nod to get hurt chooses to forfeit the match (not wanting to fight with her life friend and partner any longer the mother chooses to lose her status and her financial security.) Sheltered in the family home for 19 years, Spin is thrown out into the world. ' At Part Five, Drywell, vulnerable and still grieving over her loss, Spin finds herself impoverished, alone and devoid of skills. Her health is failing. No one wants to listen and she can find no help. "Get inside and don't open your mouth!" growled Hugo. For Spin now and Mah, life threatening danger awaits around every corner. "I can hardly move for lack of oxygen but I'm not dead!" During Part Six, Dyensell, all are convince that Spin's life is nearly over and that Mah is dead. The Dying Sell of Spin's family seems justified to everyone. Once again Spin visits the Ropeat and gains solace. During Part Seven, Mustsell, Spin once again finds her life threatened. This time from an unexpected source. "Do you want to know who also deceived you, besides me?" Lawrihn said meanly. Key to understanding Braffis Spin as an autobiography is to know that ALL the characters represent either the husband or the wife (H&W); with the exception of Stepupard (the argument) and (Scarlet Hugo, Tumbleweed, Lawrihn & Panan who represent the type of antagonist). For example: (H&W) Waindhy & Mah, Notepaper & Raine, Tide & Spin, Graham & Wooidyll, Papisad & Silla, Nod & Treon, Ed & Jani. (H) Chase, Dance, Outof, Brains.

Part 1 Mountbreakday Chapter 1 A nimbus of azure light surrounded the glowing blue world of Paland. In orbit around Paland a crater filled Sewdapop shone brightly. Within Paland’s inner atmosphere the weather was frosty, the night clouds were silvery blue and the oxygen content in the air was negligible, but breathable. In stark contrast to Paland’s promising exterior, its red landforms were rocky, sandy and infertile. Deep canyons cut ragged scars into the surface of that dying world. Sand drifts rippled across the entire face of the world’s one huge continent. Red drifts peaked in sharp mountain shapes and fell in troughs like shadowy valleys. Rainfall was slight and fresh water stores were minimal. Surrounding Paland’s continent of drifts, a deep, quiet inky salt ocean lapped the shoreline of the desert capital, Mountbreakday. Rising out from a nearby Wet dock, the pinnacles of Forever Keep rose majestically above the smooth waves. Overlooking Mountbreakday, a multitude of unusually high drifts stood as sharp sentinels. Skulking about in the darkness at the shadowy base of one of those high drifts, a pack of ferocious Harmarts sniffed hungrily at the air. High above them, located on the crest of that same drift, two Knights, aware of the presence of the beasts, were fighting. The night was dark, the terrain was hazardous and most of the population of Mountbreakday were tucked up safely in their beds. Suffice to say, except for the two quarrelling Knights on high and the beasts below, there were no others around. Dressed in their raiment of metal plating and chainmail, under an inky sky, the Knights fought. They were athletic and commonly of thoughtful disposition, though this was not apparent at this very moment. The smaller and heavier of the two was sixteen years of age. The other, slim and nineteen, was Mah Risenite. As was customary in their society the Knights each wore a techy device that encircled the head like a crown. This thin platinum band, called a Wake-Ring, was set with smoky quartz crystals. It was used for ‘wayin’ and produced gamma waves, a special type of brain wave, in great quantity. By operating a Wake-Ring, the Wayin belonging to any slumbering person could travel across the world in an instant; for free. Anyone’s Wayin could appear on the Sewdapop and fully enjoy the experience while their physical self was slumbering safe at home. Wayin of a ghostly visage was a commonplace activity in Mah’s society, practised by all. Simple wayin was not Mah’s superpower. Advanced wayin was his extraordinary gift. To explain further, Mah could take a solid form, if he desired. For all intents and purposes this meant that Mah’s solid Wayin seemed to those who were none the wiser, to be a flesh and blood man. Wayin had been demonstrated just moments before when Mah had looked down over his slumbering figure, located in an historic dwelling situated on the outskirts of Mountbreakday. Currently Mah’s very same Wayin, which was amazingly tangible, was blocking blows rained down on him by the Knight hypnotist, Earnie ‘Waindhy’ Fallday. Begging the question was the reason why these two Knights were currently engaged in hand to hand combat. The answer lay in a difference of opinion regarding the weighty issue of revenge. Mah could be heard shouting as he tried to reason with his opponent, Waindhy. "You invited trouble on yourself from the start, Waindhy," Mah called. "You are not going to waste my hours settling scores. This is just another one of your diversions." "It’s Scarlet Hugo’s fault that I lost my family," shouted Waindhy. "I will not participate in your vendetta," Mah reiterated. Following Mah’s refusal to seek revenge, a torrent of offensive, untrue name-calling, directed towards Mah, fell off Waindhy’s tongue. “Where were you when you lost your family?” Mah interjected, breaking through the tirade of Waindhy’s slurs. "I know exactly where I was," Waindhy replied proudly. "I was at the Well. I was standing on the back of a lame thoroughbred. You know the horse I mean, it’s named after you," he continued viciously. "Several girls were chasing me. I was playing catch. I was having fun." "And this means?" asked Mah. "Yes, it’s true. I lost my family because I am a cold, arrogant, show off!" shouted Waindhy. “It’s entirely my fault!” “You knew that Hugo was watching your family and mine, waiting for a chance to attack," called Mah. “You as good as encouraged him with your rude neglectful behaviour towards those who loved you. You are the one who put your family in a dangerous place!” "Why didn’t you defeat Hugo," Waindhy shouted. "I asked you to support me. You also lost your family by his hand!" "Hugo Scarlet has an army of duplicates, Waindhy. There is a limit to how many monsters I can fight at once," replied Mah rather sadly. "Hugo believes you are his bosom buddy. He is extremely determined as a result." "If I can’t get recompense from Hugo, I will get it from you instead!" Waindhy threatened. "You know you are like a Brafiss to me," Mah responded calmly. "How about behaving like one?" Ignoring Mah’s request, Waindhy pushed Mah roughly down the sand drift. When Mah climbed back up, Waindhy hurled him away with such force that Mah landed at the bottom of the sand drift with a thud. Illuminated by the shining Sewdapop and twinkling stars, the Knights continued to fight on the drift for some minutes. Desert scorpions scuttled undercover as the Knights knocked each other down the sandy banks and hammered mercilessly at each other with their gloved fists. The determination and energy they both applied to the fight and the blow by blow details have been left to the imagination. Nevertheless the fight continued until Waindhy tired of the argument. With the quarrel behind them, the two Knights climbed the Drift’s dishevelled sand and stood together. Protected by their Knight’s raiment neither showed signs of injury from their recent disagreement. Facing their world’s one Sewdapop, their cool shadows stretched out long and large over the drifts behind them. They began to talk. In contrast to their recent fight, this calm and thoughtful discussion was the actual purpose for their meeting. Waindhy addressed Mah. "Stepupard has an extremely nasty side; as evidenced by the behaviour of his associates." Mah’s warm, graceful, full timbered voice was confident and relaxed. Stepupard is my great grandfather, Mah responded coolly. In three weeks Stepupard proposes to vacate Paland forcing everyone to travel with him to Dresdown. I want to remain in Paland." Waindhy frowned. “Honestly Mah!” he exclaimed disparagingly. Mah heard the faint sound of movement at the base of the drift as the Harmarts below increased in number. He looked out at a rocky mountain range far beyond the red drifts. Fuel supplies are zero along with your chances of not ending up in Dresdown", Waindhy stated coldly. "You’ll need a vessel with an engine that doesn’t require fuel. It’s impossible." "I am going to ask the owner-inventor of the Traysee to fly to the Arcticdoll Theme Park," responded Mah, his voice optimistic. "That’s where I have two escape vessels in the final stages of manufacture. The Traysee has a gravity drive that I can replicate! No fuel required! Indifferently Waindhy watched a desert scorpion that was crawling menacingly up his arm. With distain he flicked it off. He frowned. “I’ve never heard of a Traysee before,” Waindhy growled. "Spin Stands is the owner," Mah stated. "Oh, I’ve heard of her," remarked Waindhy, contemptuously. "The Wake-Ring is also her invention. In addition to the Abovesallee Video that you gave me to scrutiny, I have a microfiche copy of her obituary here. A gentle breeze blew inland and lifted the fine grains of red sand on the drifts, quickly turning the desert into a moving sea of treacherous red dust. "I don’t want to hear your forgone conclusions about the life of Spin Stands," Mah stated flatly. "Yes you do," Waindhy contradicted. "No, I don’t," said Mah. Reacting aggressively to this part of the conversation, Waindhy shoved Mah hard in the chest. The blow knocked Mah down the face of the drift. Mah tumbled over thrice before he stopped and stood up. Brushing the red sand from his Knight’s raiment, Mah climbed back up to the top of the drift where Waindhy stood. "I’m not going to let this go," said Waindhy. Mah frowned and kicked the red sand underneath his feet. “If you must,” Mah growled grudgingly. "The Wake-Ring was immensely popular from the very first moment that it was made available to the public," Waindhy explained. "Rather than profit from the Wake-Ring, Spin paid for it with her life. She died soon after the Abovsallee, at the age of nineteen." "What do the records tell us of her father, Tide?" asked Mah. "Tide disappeared," replied Waindhy solemnly, "after the Abovesallee." “Who got all the money from the Wake-Ring?” asked Mah. “Financial minutes indicate that Plankdirt, the distributors of the Wake-Ring, received all the money,” replied Waindhy. "Who was the owner of Plankdirt?" asked Mah. "Stepupard was, and still is the owner," replied Waindhy. "That figures," said Mah coolly. Spin’s short life is the reason why I never wanted you to talk to her in the first place," said Waindhy coldly.No one wants you interfering and changing the status quo, Mah. So many people benefit from the way things stand." "Name those people?" asked Mah quietly. "I for one have benefited," replied Waindhy. "Stepupard has been extremely generous to me." Mah, unusually downcast, listened to the sound of the Harmarts snarling at the base of their high drift. A cloud bank passed across the round face of the Sewdapop, glowing in the night sky, and the long shadows of the two Knights disappeared from view. "No one wants you to give Spin a chance for a longer life, Mah. Just ignore her, get us the Traysee’s technology and everyone will be happy," Waindhy advised. In a hurried move to leave, Waindhy snatched up his Spearme that lay nearby on the dishevelled sand. Waindhy’s gold Spearme was an innovative improvement on an ancient weapon. Etchings covered the Spearme from the handholds. Quartz crystals were embedded in the centre portion and shiny thick bands of silver casing tipped both sides. It was thought, but not yet proven, that the Spearme was a conductor of psychic energy. "Waindhy, I want you in one piece," Mah warned in parting, after which his Wayin vanished from the place. "Mah Risenite does all the dreadful work," Waindhy thought to himself happily. "And I have all the fun!" he yelled, joyfully running down the high drift towards the Harmarts below. Part 2 Abovesallee Chapter 2 Celebrating the onset of a new era and the launch of two sensational inventions, the Abovesallee began as an exciting party. Hundreds of Headliners filled the sky. They flew over lofty buildings, towering terraces, landmark structures and gardens. Abuzz with the chatter of a massive crowd, bubbly laughter rose in the atmosphere like a heady sweet bouquet. Ambling forward revellers sang and laughed loudly. Interrupting their gaiety, Tide called out to the crowd from a massive speaker system. “Welcome to the Abovesallee!” Tide exclaimed, “Enjoy the free refreshments available on every street corner! We have prizes! We have fascinating exhibitions! We have music! Watch the show, beginning shortly! Discover the great secrets! Hear the controversial debate! See the spectacular demonstration of the mysterious secret inventions later this afternoon! Don’t miss out on your perfect life in a perfect world! See what Plankdirt has to offer you!” Entranced by Tide’s promise of an ideal world, a stream of bobbing heads coursed its way through the streets towards Tide’s location; the Nitebreak. Standing splendid and palatial on the corner of two familiar roads, the blue-flecked brick Nitebreak beckoned in the early afternoon sunshine. With five hundred VIP seats in the stalls, plus a further five thousand seats in the stands, the enclosed indoor Nitebreak was a moderate sized venue. Five thousand ticketed spectators stood in the street outside of that imposing building, all impatient to see two wondrous inventions that promised to enrich their lives. Zealously they watched the micro screen positioned in front of the Nitebreak, keen for the show to begin. They crammed against the grey metal fence railings. Eager to gain admittance they pressed against the closed grey gates. Summoned by an overwhelming curiosity the public gathering standing in the street enviously watched the VIP guests, called Abovesallee Delegates. Privileged to wait inside the closed gates, on the front entrance steps of the Nitebreak; the Delegates would soon enter the foyer. Subsequently they would take their seats in the stalls in the covered arena. Armed with their prized invitations all of the Delegates were handsomely dressed. Of interest to the crowd outside of the gates, each of the Delegates wore a jewelled platinum diadem. Set with smoky quartz crystals, the device encircled the forehead like a crown. Waiting at the top of the steps, some of the Delegates looked in through the locked glass entrance panels. Admiringly they gazed in, up at the plastered ceilings, the high arched portals and the marble Pointneedles of the Nitebreak’s empty foyer. Suddenly there was an excited shout. A Delegate had just spotted the Curator of the Nitebreak approaching from inside. Moments later the elderly Curator, who was curiously known by the not uncommon name of Scarlet Hugo, unlocked and slid back the glass entrance panels. Wisely standing aside and with a delighted look on his face, the Curator watched the bubbly excited Delegates flood into the foyer. Booming out from the Nitebreak, the eager multitude once again heard Tide, calling to them. Tide was a celebrated orator, and he exclaimed enthusiastically, “Thank you for joining the Abovesallee! Today you are celebrating the launch of two immensely powerful inventions that will bring untold wealth to each and every one of their owners! The inventions will be revealed during the show! The show will commence shortly,” Tide continued, “so keep watching those micro screens and benefit from being one of the first to discover three fantastic secrets! You will learn the names of the inventions. You will learn how to use the mysterious inventions to reshape your lives! You will gaze in awe at the creation that has been shrouded in mystery! Once you know the three secrets you will have everything that you ever wanted!” Tide promised. “Take advantage of being the first to know and being the first to own the inventions! Thanks to Plankdirt and our spectacular new inventions you can look forward to an idyllic life in your ideal world!" Tide's gripping promises eclipsed all other sounds, quashing the loud clamour of an indestructible alien helicopter that had suddenly appeared as a daunting haze on the horizon. Fast approaching the Nitebreak, flying high over the nearby Parks and hauling a mysterious glowing blue crate underneath its long fuselage; the propeller blades of the helicopter chopped noisily through the air. Formed by the bright daylight, the aircraft’s long shadow swam unseen through the huge distracted crowd. Roaring out steadily over the locality, Tide's predictions continued to overshadow the extremely significant arrival of the alien helicopter, presently hovering over the rooftop of the Nitebreak. In response to the helicopters arrival, the Nitebreak’s domed roof opened. Lowering its secret gleaming cargo through that aperture; the helicopter pilot set the massive glowing blue crate down onto the Nitebreak’s Downstage. Standing at the front of that Downstage, Tide soberly supervised the delivery of the priceless cargo. Emitting from the huge mysterious crate, thousands of antenna shaped rays of bright blue light bathed Tide in a deep azure haze. From the priceless invention, hidden inside the crate, came a strange melodic humming sound. Taking a moments break from issuing his announcements; Tide released the safety catches on the crate and let the metal sides of the crate slowly drop onto the Downstage floor. Standing back, he observed the larger of the secret inventions buoyant above the Downstage, surrounded by an aura of blue light. He smiled. "The world is my oyster,” Tide thought smugly. Watched over by a security crew, theTraysee had arrived on the Downstage without incident. Tide returned to his task of public speaking. “Greetings!” he called out enthusiastically. “Welcome to the Abovesallee, organised for you by Plankdirt, the world’s foremost travel and aviation group!” Chapter 3 So overwhelming and spellbinding were Tide's pronouncements that the powerful alien helicopter, free of its precious cargo, landed on the rooftop without audience. Rhythmically slicing the air, the rotor blades of the settled helicopter were still spinning rapidly – throwing dust and debris chaotically upward – when the door of the helicopter slid open. An inscrutable mature man stood proudly in the entrance of that vessel. A celebrity, he was known to the media. Well-dressed, he wore a cream suit and his bald head was covered by a flight cap. His thick moustache and his large green eyes were his most prominent features. The most significant quality about this man was that his whole being seemed to exude vitality. His name was Stepupard. Jumping easily down from the helicopter onto the rooftop, Stepupard took off his flight cap and tossed it into the helicopter, revealing the jewelled platinum Wake-Ring he wore. Slightly different from those worn by the Delegates, his Wake-Ring was set with three amethyst crystals. Quickly he entered the Nitebreak through the rooftop access. He descended several flights of stairs and swiftly made his way towards the foyer where the Delegates were waiting. Abruptly Tide's pronouncements stopped. Currently entering the crowded foyer, Stepupard moved through the huge, bright room with its large vaulted windows, marble Pointneedles and glistening marble floor. He headed towards the grand rear staircase. Arriving at the staircase he climbed the marble steps to the central landing where the stairs branched off to the left, and to the right. Instantly spotted and besieged by newspaper reporters and journalists, he smiled affably. The World News Reporter – Ms Silla Light, a tall slim woman with ruby red cropped hair – was the first of the members of the Press to reach him. Standing to the left of the dapper celebrity, she quickly spoke into her microphone. "I am Silla," she said, "reporting to you worldwide from the Nitebreak. I don't want anyone to miss participating in the events of today.” Silla’s face reflected her excitement as she spoke happily. “In forty minutes, the Abovesallee will officially begin!” Silla exclaimed. “Five hundred Delegates have flown in from neighbouring localities," Silla continued. "During the show these Delegates will contribute towards the code of practice about the new inventions. This code will protect us all and the inventions will revolutionize our lives!” Silla happily stood next to Stepupard, with the features of the central landing and rear marble staircase distinct in the background. “Joining us and speaking to you today, I am privileged to introduce an important celebrity,” said Silla. “Representing Plankdirt is the organizer of the Abovesallee. Here he is folks, the extremely popular Stepupard!" Stepupard grinned precociously. Unexpectedly he grabbed the microphone from Silla and exclaimed, “Thank you, Silla! This is the first occasion I have had the pleasure of meeting Silla and already I can tell that she is a simply gorgeous lady. Isn't she a gorgeous lady, Audience?” “Welcome to all of the Delegates!” Stepupard continued. “Hello to all! I noticed on my way here that the Abovesallee is already underway; so hello to all you revellers out there! Hello to the people gathered outside the Nitebreak and in the nearby Parks! Lovely day, isn’t it?" Enthralled by his charisma, all the Delegates in the foyer turned to face Stepupard. Immediately there followed a loud roar from outside as the multitude shouted back, "Hello!" in return. Stepupard responded by stepping forward. Standing on the landing in the striking foyer with its high arched portals, marble pillars and glossy floor, Stepupard called out enthusiastically to Delegates before him, "Do you want to know a secret?” Quickly bedazzled by Stepupard’s charm, five hundred Delegates heartily responded, “Yes!” From outside Stepupard heard a roar as the crowd watching their micro screen responded, “Yes!” “Do you want to know three secrets?” Stepupard continued to call. “Yes!” responded the Delegates with gusto, as did the crowd outside. “Today we are going to reveal to you the mysteries of two immensely powerful inventions,” Stepupard shouted enthusiastically. “The inventions are capable of delivering indescribable riches to each and every one of its owners!” All the Delegates cheered excitedly as did the people watching the micro screens in the nearby streets and Parks. “I also have a street party surprise for all of you wonderful people enjoying the Abovesallee!" Stepupard enthused. "I can hear you already,” he continued. “You are asking, what is the street party surprise, Stepupard? You'll find out, sweethearts, in twenty minutes from….now!" "Stepupard?" asked Silla, also stepping forward, pleased and smiling. "Can you tell us the agenda of the show today?" "I can't tell you all the details, Silla!" Stepupard exclaimed in mock horror. "If I did, I would spoil the surprise!” Facing the crowd in the Nitebreak’s foyer, Stepupard adopted a more sober expression before continuing. “What I can tell you, is that no one will miss out on enjoying the Abovesallee today!” Stepupard said earnestly. “Plankdirt has hired a special crew who will make sure that everyone will see and hear every detail. A special Abovesallee video will also be available within a few days. This Abovesallee Video will take pride of place in your home and I’m sure it will be kept as a family heirloom for generations to come.” “Yes,” said Silla with a forced smile. “The Abovesallee will begin with a debate based on the information revealed about the second secret. After the debate, Plankdirt’s wondrous new inventions, the spectacular Traysee and the Wake-Ring will be unveiled to the world amidst much pomp and ceremony.” “Is that what the mysterious inventions are called?” queried Silla earnestly. “This is the first instance anyone has been told.” “Yes,” replied Stepupard, smiling. “This is a worldwide show so everyone knows the first secret! Following Stepupard’s key disclosure an excited murmur rippled through the crowds in the streets and amongst the Delegates. The words ‘Traysee’ and ‘Wake-Ring’ were repeated reverently numerous occasions by countless people during the next few moments. “I have heard there are prizes?” asked Silla when the excited Delegates had quietened. “Why yes,” replied Stepupard enthusiastically. “During the Abovesallee, Plankdirt is running three competitions with marvellous prizes. The winners of those competitions will be announced during the show." "Stepupard, can you tell us the details of these competitions?" Silla asked. "Certainly I can,” Stepupard replied. ”The first competition is for the viewers at home. Watch to see if your citizen card number is called during the show. If your number is called, dial CASHI1 to claim your prize. Each prize is one week’s basic wage, in cash! The second competition is for all those Abovesallee revellers in the streets, or in the Parks,” Stepupard continued. “You will all be offered a card before the Abovesallee officially begins. If your card number is called, dial SKYRIDEI1 to claim your ride for two, in one of our many Headliners! The third competition is only available to the Delegates attending the Abovesallee,” Stepupard finished. “Plankdirt is always searching for people with original ideas. Rays of warm sunlight streamed in through the large vaulted windows and reflected off the ornate plastered ceilings. The marble floor glistened. Five hundred Delegates chatted excitedly. Outside of the Nitebreak, five thousand ticketed spectators were still awaiting entry. The public gathering avidly watched their closest micro screen for more news from the charismatic Stepupard. Stepupard had partaken of some refreshments and was standing casually on the landing waiting for the interview to continue. He smiled generously. As the Delegates quietly listened, Silla put forth her initial question. "Stepupard, will the issues of health and safety be a priority to Plankdirt?" Silla asked. Stepupard smiled and began to reply, "Plankdirt is committed to providing the safest…" "Independent sources confirm that several people employed by Plankdirt and members of their families have gone missing during the production of the Traysee," accused Silla, cutting Stepupard off in mid-sentence. "One of the people reported missing is the wife of the celebrated inventor, Tide,” Silla continued. “Is this true?" Stepupard glanced quickly at the five hundred Delegates. He noted how earnestly they listened to his every word. Staring impassively at the reporter who had just asked him this weighty question, he replied stonily. "No one has gone missing," Stepupard replied. “Mrs Tide was reported missing after leaving her home to visit Plankdirt. Is this true?” pressed Silla. "I cannot comment on personal matters regarding my employees or their families,” replied Stepupard. Stepupard smiled affably, concealing the truth. “Please rest assured,” Stepupard said calmly. “Plankdirt has the highest Health and Safety Standards in the world!" "Stepupard, do you support the general public using your newest inventions?" asked Silla, brushing her hair back from her face. "The best interests of the public will always be my top priority," replied Stepupard. "Will everyone get to have a Traysee and a Wake-Ring?" asked Silla. Everyone waited eagerly for Stepupard’s answer. Stepupard smiled charmingly. "I can’t see why not," he replied. "Will the inventions make us all rich?" Silla asked. Sun streamed in through the foyer’s large vaulted windows causing the marble floor to gleam. Grouped around the landing, five hundred absorbed Delegates once again eagerly waited for Stepupard’s reply. Stepupard answered sincerely, "The inventions promise to improve our quality of life." "On a lighter note," Silla asked positively, "when can I buy a Traysee, and how much will it cost?" "Mass production of the Traysee will begin as soon as the relevant code of practice is ratified," Stepupard replied amiably. "Pending that legislation,” Stepupard continued, “four hundred Traysees will be available for sale, tomorrow morning, at Plankdirt’s showroom. The price for these Traysees will be negotiated on application to purchase." Silla called out suddenly, "Stepupard, will we see a Traysee today? Plankdirt has kept the invention so secret that no one actually knows what the Traysee looks like!" Stepupard replied heartily, “This afternoon, during the Abovesallee, Plankdirt's crowning achievement – the Traysee – will be unveiled!" "Ah, but can Plankdirt prove that your amazing invention actually works?" she asked. “Yes, we can,” he answered casually. “Following the unveiling of the Traysee there will be a practical demonstration which will astound you all!" The interview of Stepupard prior to the Abovesallee beginning was still in mid stage. Silla was keen to ask questions and the audience were keen to listen. "Please, Stepupard, we would like to ask you questions about the Wake-Ring?" asked Silla. Elevated above the crowd, Stepupard was standing on the landing of a grand marble staircase. “The first secret invention, the Wake-Ring went on sale this morning!” Stepupard revealed proudly. “A Wake-Ring is a platinum diadem that facilitates Well Travel!” The Delegates were all sporting brand new Wake-Rings and they gasped with delight. Impatient to hear Stepupard talk about the advantages to be gained from the use of their recent purchase, they all clapped heartily. The atmosphere in the foyer was bright and cheerful. The foyer’s décor was exquisite. Stepupard smiled broadly. “The popular use of the Wake-Ring is the beginning of a splendid new culture, changed patterns of human activity and a golden age!” promised Stepupard honestly. The Delegates were delighted. They all clapped and some of them bowed, honouring Stepupard. "Stepupard," Silla continued eagerly. "The Wake-Ring went on sale today and already has surpassed anything ever invented, in popularity and sales!” "Yes," agreed Stepupard. He smiled graciously at the Delegates gathered around the landing. "Besides being functional, the Wake-Ring is also decorative,” Stepupard continued. “Made with platinum, each ring is set with jewels in an exquisite design." "Stepupard, we have been advised by your Marketing Department that the Wake-Ring offers unlimited potential for travel. Is this true?" asked Silla. "The Wake-Ring requires a certain level of acquired skill to operate. However, with practice, any one, of any age, can operate the device,” replied Stepupard. "What you were told is true – within reasonable limitations of skill." "Can you tell us precisely what the Wake-Ring is; and what it does?" asked Silla. All of the Delegates listened eagerly. "The Wake-Ring, Plankdirt's wonderful new product is completely safe,” replied Stepupard enthusiastically. “The Wake-Ring is a sensory device, worn on the head, which triggers the movement of the individual Well. Using the Wake-Ring allows the wearer to travel anywhere without ever having to move a muscle. This travel is called ‘wayin.’ The traveller is a 'Wayin'. Wayin is the newest advancement of our society. Stationary consciousness belongs to Barbrhu!” "Wow!" exclaimed Silla. "Will I be awake when this happens?" "It is only possible to wayin when one is asleep," Stepupard replied. "Set the clock on the Ring for the duration of any trip and activate the device with either a secret password or by brushing your hand across the front of the Ring. Once activated, the Wake-Ring puts the wearer to sleep and automatically wakes them when the holiday is over. Naturally, if a sleeper is disturbed during the trip, that person will awaken. The wayin experience is wonderful!" Stepupard smiled out at the Delegates. He noted the extremely satisfied expressions on all their faces. "Where can I buy a Wake-Ring?" asked Silla. "You can buy a Wake-Ring from Plankdirt’s showroom”, Stepupard replied, “You can be fitted -" "The price you are charging for the Wake-Ring is exorbitant!" cut in Silla rudely. Stepupard regarded her sympathetically. "No, Silla. That isn't true," he replied sincerely. "We at Plankdirt believe the price to be fair. Plankdirt is only recouping our costs on the product.” “Considering the value of the Wake-Ring to the wearer,” finished Stepupard, “the price, equivalent to only one holiday on an Upside bus to Mars, is very reasonable." Placated, Silla smiled charmingly at Stepupard before asking her next question. "How many holidays can I take using the Wake-Ring?” Silla asked. “How much will each holiday cost, and where can I travel?" "You can take countless holidays, Silla, to any place your mind can take you,” replied Stepupard. “The only cost involved is the initial outlay for the Wake-Ring." Stepupard smiled. "The Abovesallee is due to begin," Stepupard announced proudly. "We need to wrap up our questions." Unexpectedly Silla turned off her microphone. Stepupard noted that the interview had indirectly finished. “I have one last question, Stepupard,” said Silla. “Yes?” Stepupard asked. “I was refused an invitation to the Abovesallee because Plankdirt has hired a special crew to record the whole spectacle. I am told that this crew has exclusive rights over the story, pictures and an Abovesallee Video that is going to be released soon. Is that true?” “Yes, what you were told is true” replied Stepupard. “All the members of the press are barred from admission.” “Stepupard, what if I leave my recording and filming equipment outside. Would it be at all possible for me to attend?” Silla asked. “We have limited seats,” said Stepupard apologetically. “Tide gave specific instructions that members of the press must be declined admission.” “Please..,” begged Silla beguilingly. Standing on the marble landing, Stepupard hesitated. “You will need to sign an undertaking before you enter the Nitebreak’s arena that you will respect the rights of our crew,” said Stepupard sternly. “Obviously you will need the go ahead from your employer.” “I agree,” said Silla. Stepupard smiled. He reached into his breast pocket. “I’m making an exception in this case,” Stepupard said. Stepupard looked sternly at Silla. He handed her a prized ticket. “You are officially a Delegate of the Abovesallee,” said Stepupard. Silla nodded courteously to Stepupard. "We are required in the arena," Stepupard directed.
