The Bairabi Sairang Railway is a proposed railway line from Bairabi station to Sairang. It is a part of Northeast Frontier Railway zone of Indian Railways.

Technical Features

The proposed broad gauge railway line from Bairabi to Sairang railway stations near Aizawl, is slated to be completed by March 2015, at a projected cost of Rs 2,384.34 crore. An estimated 28 hectares of land would be required for the construction of 51-km long rail line. The Bairabi-Sairang rail link would require construction of 204 bridges, 24 tunnels and four stations.[1]

The Task force for Bairabi Sairang Railway State Level Task Force Chairman Zasanga has stated that Compensation worth 20.5 crores is still required while Forest Clearance is still being awaited. Railway officials have stated that the work would be started as soon as clearance is received.[2] The Chief Minister Pu Lalthanhawla has said that it would be difficult to complete the Bairabi Sairang Railway line before 2014 due to demand for huge compensation.[3]
