The magnetic field of the passing asteroid is generating enough energy to pull Grailem towards it. Waking from an aimless sleep he tries to use his precious energy to move closer. It had been aeons since he had stood on, or even felt a solid surface beneath his feet. Grailem had been drifting aimlessly through space since his spacecraft had exploded, maybe a million years ago now. The exploding fuel tanks had thrown him out into the cold of space with such a force that he had almost achieved the speed of light. Pulling up outside the corner shop Suzy is pleased to see it empty of customers inside and gets out the car quickly; locking it she enters the shop and makes her way to the coffee and sugar. The supermarket seems too much for her at the moment and Suzy picks up a large jar of coffee and two bags of sugar. Taking them to the till she puts them on the counter and walks over to the fridge picking up two large bottles of full fat milk and returns to the counter as the lad who is serving, totals them up on the till. I stop at the northern elephant seal colony north of San Simeon pulling in to the large gravel car park, for I do not intend to say farewell just yet. I plan to camp near Morro Bay before heading out into the desert and want to spend one last weekend in this area. February is a good time to visit the seal colony with the pups a few weeks old and fattening up in readiness for the sea. Soon the adults will leave the pups to their fate, after weaning it will be up to the pups to teach themselves to swim and hunt for food. The baby elephant seals have changed enormously in the few days that I have been away, appearing to have doubled in size they now look fit to burst. The babies are also lighter in colour as they turn from the black of newborn to a grey; that will take on a silver hue for when their time comes in a few weeks to head out into the Pacific Ocean. My journey really begins in Virginia, in the ‘Bible Belt’ of America in September 2002 living with a witch of the Wicca cult called Tigerlilly. Tigerlilly had no appearance of being a witch, being blonde and dressing in middle class American clothes. Tigerlilly drove a new metallic silver coloured Dodge car and lived in a trailer on a large trailer park a few miles from the city. By all outward appearances all appeared normal from the outside of her trailer home; with flowers and shrubs surrounding the 60 foot long white trailer.
